Amber Turner is a Guest Speaker on World Peace Day for the Gibraltar Integral Yoga Centre

06 October 2015

Holistic Lawyer, Barrister and Mediator Amber Turner BSc (Hons) LLM was invited by the Gibraltar Integral Yoga Centre to be one of its Guest Speakers on World Peace Day.  Amber spoke of the reasons to strive for peace in the family home through methods of conflict resolution. With statistics of around 40-50% divorce rates in the western world, Amber’s focus was on the importance of creating peaceful environments, especially for children to reduce or eliminate the generational cycles of negative and destructive behaviour which only serve to cause pain, trauma and suffering.  Amber reminded the attendees that peace starts within and in your family home.  Once you have achieved peace within yourself and made peace with your immediate and extended family, then go forward and work on peace in your circle of friends, your community and beyond.  A mind and heart that are not in peace cannot logically be a channel or instrument of peace.

There are always some family relationships which cannot be resolved: some people can be conflictive, negative, destructive and toxic.  It is not always possible to achieve peace with everyone: it is then that we need to take on the practice of compassion and forgiveness.  Forgiveness is not about absolving the other person from their wrong-doing; it is letting go of the attachment to the pain and suffering that the person's behaviour or the event triggered in you. Once you let go of all the painful attachments you have created from your past experiences, you can find peace and enjoy the present moment, creating a better and happier future for you and those around you.

Amber Law congratulates Yoga Therapist and Teacher Nalanie Chellaram, Founder of the Gibraltar Integral Yoga Centre, and her amazing team, for hosting and organising this annual celebration of World Peace Day, where not only guest speakers share with the public, but the music and mantras of One Voice, dancing and the participation of children is always a special feature enjoyed by all.
