“When my close to 30-year marriage broke down, I was in my late 50s. I had been looking forward to my husband’s retirement and all the lifelong plans we would finally enjoy. Now I was heart-broken. Lost. Devastated. His leaving came as a complete shock to me. I was numb and couldn’t think straight. I didn’t know anything about our finances. I had allowed myself to become very dependent on my husband. I was stressed, fearful and anxious about my present and what would become of me, my future?

My name is Marie and I teach Art as Therapy and Tai Chi as healing arts. I joined Amber Law’s Team of Holistic Professionals in 2014 because I know that adults and children going through the stress and anxiety that legal disputes such as separation and divorce carry, do benefit from the mental and emotional support these creative practices have to offer.

I have known Amber since 1999, when as Gibraltar’s first Public Services Ombudsman I recruited Amber amongst many other applicants as one of two qualified lawyers who would act as my Legal Assistants. I saw that she had the professional and human qualities I was looking for.

It is not easy when you have been married for 18 years and you come to the day when you have to acknowledge that your marriage is breaking down. The fear of failure, the fear on where this leaves your children, the uncertainty, not knowing what it will lead to, will cause anyone in that situation a lot of stress and anxiety. I could not understand why my marriage was breaking down? The thought of not being with my children or not seeing them on a daily basis, was heart-breaking, unbearable for me.

I met Amber at her chambers when I approached her for legal advice in 2009. I was in the process of getting divorced. It was the most difficult time of my life; I was overwhelmed and vulnerable. In every aspect Amber made feel very secure, comfortable and calm and advised me on what were the best approaches for the well-being of my daughter throughout the whole process.

Throughout my entire case, Amber was always incredibly responsive and spent time walking me through each step. She is incredibly professional and yet down to earth making the stressful process more calming. Amber always gave me considered advice on how to resolve the matter as peaceably as possible and away from the court room. I highly recommend her.

I have known Amber for over 15 years through our love of Yoga, however it wasn’t until recently that I needed her professional services. I discovered not only that she is very professional but also her holistic approach to her work and her passion for philanthropy which she has invested not only with her clients but in Gibraltar’s community and further afield.
