Amber Turner meets Dr Ramesh Pattni DPhil Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies

27 October 2016

Dr Ramesh Pattni DPhil of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies visited at the Gibraltar Hindu Temple to give a talk about his work.  The Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies is a recognised independent centre of the University of Oxford.

“Ramesh Pattni completed his doctoral thesis at the University of Oxford, Faculty of Theology on Yoga Psychology based on the Yogasūtra of Patañjali. Ramesh has been teaching Hinduism since 1993 and in particular he has an interest in the psychological and philosophical aspects of Advaita Vedanta and practical applications of its non-dualist approach. He has taught courses at Cambridge University and other institutions, and does regular workshops and seminars on various topics in Hinduism. He has also worked in interfaith forums in the UK and is the past Co-Chair of the Hindu Christian Forum (UK) and a past Director of the Interfaith Network UK” (www.ochsonline.org)

Amber Law’s Holistic approach to the Practice of Law was in part born from my own studies of the Sutras of Patañjali, as translated by Sri Swami Satchidananda and taught by his disciple Yoga Therapist and Teacher Nalanie Chellaram.  Nalanie founded the Gibraltar Integral Yoga Centre in Gibraltar over 20 years ago.  She was my dance teacher when I relocated age 6 from London to Gibraltar post my parents’ acrimonious separation.   From dancer teacher she became my Yoga teacher and mentor during my twenties and early thirties.

The Sutras give valuable life tools and guidance for all, which is why I find them of great benefit and implement them when I can in my practice of Law and client work.

I am grateful to Dr Ramesh for sharing his wisdom and look forward to learning more in time to come.
