It was a pleasure to attend at Bright Med’s Gibraltar World Music Festival as well as at other events hosted this week. The music festival is powerful because it sees artists from countries otherwise at war or in conflict, playing together in peace and harmony, bringing to audiences that very message.
It was very exciting and fun to be part of Mirela’s afternoon Catwalk Event at the Boutique of Designer Diane Von Furstenberg, in Mayfair, London. Mirela Sula, founder of Global Woman and her wonderful team of beautiful professional ladies at the London Best You in February 2018 was a blessing. I have since expanded my global network and made meaningful connections with many ladies who I can now call friends and who share a common desire to positively impact others as part of their work in the world.…
The holistic family lawyer, who travelled from Gibraltar for the launch, said: “When I heard about the launch I knew I had to be here. I’m so excited there is a club here to expand the network and share knowledge and advice.”…
I have known Gabriel since I was 6 years old and he, 4 years old; a few decades ago, now! Gabriel is a Gibraltarian author, poet and singer-songwriter who has performed in Gibraltar, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, USA and Peru in the last 20 years. His folk songs are both poetic and political, exploring similar themes as Leonard Cohen, Fabrizio Dandre and Georges Brassens.…
Many of us may remember Terry Oldfield as the gifted flute player from the famous 1973 Tubular Bells, composed by his brother Mike Oldfield. Terry and his wife Soraya Saraswati now travel the world bringing their magical music to workshops in the context of mindfulness practice. Founder of the Integral Yoga Centre Gibraltar and Sotogrande (Spain), Nalanie Chellaram, graciously hosted the event which was attended to full capacity.…
It was a pleasure and an honour to be invited by TV personality and host Anna Cavilla to take part in a series about the practice of Mindfulness, called ‘Are We Aware?’
The GBC interview gave me an opportunity to expand on 1) what Mindfulness means to me; 2) how I apply Mindfulness in my legal practice with my clients, as well as describe modern Legal Practice Models such as Collaborative Law (invented by Stu Webb in 1990), not yet seen in Gibraltar and 3) the real benefits of Mindfulness to clients and their families.…
“Travel- the only thing you buy that makes you richer”
Finding the time to dis-connect from work is a challenge nowadays because as we know and is sounding almost cliché now, our mobile phones have become our mobile offices. Even in the fringes of the Amazon jungle (I kid you not) there is a WIFI signal!
When it comes to choosing where to spend a well-deserved break, my advice is, choose carefully. First check in with yourself and be mindful of your needs. Then communicate these needs to your partner/ family if you are travelling with others. It is easy enough to continue in the adrenaline-fuelled pattern and re-create the busy-ness of our work-days during our supposed holi-days! I’ve fallen prey to that so many times myself and found myself exhausted on my return, having jammed in too many daily excursions, or a hectic travel schedule!…
H. Akademy was founded in 2011 by International Speaker Eric Ho. The main aim of the organisation is to provide people with business and financial education to help them reach success with strategies Eric himself used to create multiple passive income streams, across multiple industries. Eric founded the YoYo Noodles franchise which he later sold in 2015 and was also Chairman of UK Steel from 2008-2015. Aside from learning about different business strategies, attending this event was also an excellent opportunity to network, connect with like-minded people and make new friends from a global family.…
I have been practising law since 1999, when I was propelled from Bar School into the 'deep end of the swimming pool’ (court rooms) and it literally felt like the options I had were either to sink or swim! Fast forward 19 years on, 17 of these years have been spent mainly in litigation in the Gibraltar Magistrates Court, Juvenile Court, Supreme Court and Industrial Tribunal. I spent 2000-02 as a Legal Adviser of the Founding Team that set up Gibraltar’s Public Services Ombudsman Office and 2002-03 reading my Masters Degree at Bristol University.…
The Enlightened Warrior Training Camp led by actress, stunt woman, author and martial artist Marjean Holden taught in a jungle in Malaysia, offered me the opportunity to become aware of and strengthen my mindset, emotional health and physical capabilities.…
By the very nature of practising as a Barrister you are thrown into the world of conflict on almost a daily basis. Your work day might include: client conferences where you are told about the conflict(s) your client and his/ her family or children are suffering; you may receive ‘opposing’ counsel’s correspondence which is framed in conflictive and hurtful/ damaging language; you may be advocating in the Court/ Tribunal’s adversarial system where positions are entrenched and counsel ‘battling’ out submissions like bullets to ‘disarm’ the ‘opponent’. The secondary trauma many lawyers suffer as a consequence of long-term exposure to ‘conflict’ leads to high levels of stress, depression, anxiety and even high rates of suicide in the legal profession.…
Holistic Lawyer, Barrister and Mediator Amber Turner BSc (Hons) LLM, founder of Amber Law, was invited by Feng Shui Expert Begonia Del Rey to the opening of Andy Warhol’s 30th Anniversary Art Exhibition at the prestigious Wanson International Art Gallery at Marbella Club Hotel.
“I first met Begonia at a friends’ networking lunch in Sotogrande. I had been thinking of engaging the services of a Feng Shui Expert only the week before and presto! Begonia carried out Feng Shui in my home and office and I was very intrigued by the process and happy with the results!”…
I was grateful to receive an invite to local artist Tessa Neish’s Exhibition, ‘Metamorphosis’; a colourful collection of watercolour portraits held at the famous Sacarellos Coffee Shop established in 1881, a favourite location for local artists to exhibit their work. Tessa has previously exhibited in Florence and Bologna in collective events.
Amber Law supports Art as a therapeutic tool. Law has traditionally taught lawyers ‘out of their emotions’ and therefore edited a significant part of our intelligence when it comes to the practice of law- that of harnessing our emotional intelligence, compassion and empathy. I use these tools every day in connecting and communicating with my clients.…
Amber Law attends Gibraltar Health & Wellbeing Day April 2017 at the Gibraltar Leisure Centre, alongside Gibraltar’s Holistic Health and Wellbeing Practitioners. At Amber Law, Business and Wellbeing are not mutually exclusive! A blend can exist and when the model is sound, this is possible. “People need to be treated as a whole, not edited out from their legal problem. Legal and personal problems are often inextricably linked. My belief is that addressing legal problems alone is going short of providing clients with a real chance of attaining wellbeing.…
This year the Annual Women In Business Dinner was hosted at the historic Rock Hotel, Gibraltar. The Rock Hotel has welcomed celebrity guests such as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Sir Winston Churchill, Sean Connery, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Errol Flynn to name a few!
I fell in love with actor Simon Callow's portrayal of his 'larger than life' character Gareth in the hit movie in 1994, 'Four Weddings and a Funeral', which also featured Hugh Grant (as Charles) and Andie McDowell (as Carrie). Mr Callow was nominated for a BAFTA Film Award for Best Actor in Supporting role. It was therefore very exciting to be invited to Christian Hook's private live portrait painting of Simon Callow at Clarendon's Mayfair Gallery, which Mr Callow attended with his spouse Sebastian Fox. Mr Callow is an English actor, writer, theatre and opera director and has taken part in countless number of TV series and films.
Venue: Wildy & Sons Ltd 1830 Law Booksellers & Publishers, London
Amber Law opened in March 2013 as Gibraltar’s first Holistic Law firm, integrating wellbeing tools with the practice of law.
Having created a Holistic Law model from an amalgamation of my legal experience since 1999 in civil and criminal litigation; charity work; studies in yoga practices and an awareness of the great benefits to health and wellbeing for lawyers and clients alike, of holistic healing practices, I continue researching year on year about alternative methods of dispute resolution.…

In the week that celebrated International Women’s Day 2016, the Amber Law team attended a thoroughly enjoyable debate organized by EY at the Sunborn on ‘Women in Leadership’. We would like to thank the organizers and also Jonathan Scott who was a very professional anchor. The debate was aired on GBC’s program Viewpoint.
On the 6th June 2019, Holistic Lawyer and Interpersonal Mediator Amber Turner, founder of Amber Law (est 2013) attended the UK’s first ever meeting on Therapeutic Jurisprudence (known as TJ for short). It was a privilege to be personally invited by Success Coach Judymay Murphy to her private ‘Elevated Women’ Event at the Ritz Carlton, London. I have great admiration for Judymay who is an author, an actress and writer for television, because she has a genuine interest in supporting others through her work, which she is truly passionate about. Founder of nutrition business, show-business bootcamp operator and guest on television programmes on American Broadcasting Company, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Warner Brothers Television, Judymay generously shares her knowledge and experience with others for their wellbeing and personal growth.…
It is a scientific fact that we are all made up of energy. As Albert Einstein famously stated, “Everything is energy and that is all there is to it”.
Very conscious of this from my own personal experience in yoga, meditation and mindfulness practices, I took a step further and attended a weekend workshop in Madrid about working with my Chakras.…
Following on from an inspirational experience at Christian Hook’s Exhibition at Althorp, with the Althorp Literary Festival running in parallel, we travelled to London for his private viewing of his Exhibition with family, friends and clients. The Exhibition’s theme was born of his travels to Japan, exploration of the culture and ceremonies as well as deeper investigation into calligraphy. Once again the experience was enriching and stimulating for the mind and senses. I am truly grateful for these life experiences shared.
At Amber Law, happily many clients and collaborators become lifelong friends. It was a joy to meet up with former client Margaret Rodriguez, Marie Fox founder in Gibraltar of Art as Therapy and receive the contributions of Author Asia Dimitrova’s son, Andy sharing his experience as a ‘son of divorce’.…
This week I was excited to meet up with Marie Fox so that she could update me on her current restorative projects and workshops. The reason I include Art as Therapy in Amber Law’s website, is to provide our clients and website visitors with awareness and information about yet another Wellbeing Tool.
It is perfectly normal that clients going through the legal process, be it an employment dispute, accident/ injury, separation or divorce, a criminal matter and so on, are suffering from some measure of stress, anxiety and even depression; not just because of the legal process but also due to the underlying reason why they have a legal dispute.…
When my friend and talented GBC TV personality Anna Cavilla suggested that we attend Anita Moorjani’s one day transformational workshop in Bristol, it was an offer I could not refuse! I first came across Anita at the 'Being One' event in Madrid in May 2017, where I translated on stage for Dr Joe Vitale (from Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret and Ho’opono pono).
Anita came to be known after she miraculously recovered from an NDE (Near Death Experience) in 2006. She has appeared on CNN, FOX, Today News Channels as well as The Dr Oz Show, Anderson Cooper 360 and the National Geographic. She also gave a TEDx Talk in 2013. Her message is to embody love in a fear-based world.…
Amber in Amsterdam- Business Skills Development Course and Banksy
Law Students are taught about many things ‘legal’; but one of the most important skills to hone for any lawyer aspiring to run his or her own practice, are business skills. When I opened Amber Law in March 2013, I knew absolutely nothing about running a business as to that date, I had always worked for other law firms.…
Ayelet Mamo Shay is a lady of many talents: Co-Founder and Director of Benefit Business Solutions Ltd (www.benefitgibraltar.com), journalist, PhD researcher of small Jewish communities around the world and mother, Ayelet relocated to Gibraltar from Israel with her husband and also became the Chair of the Gibraltar-Israel Chamber of Commerce (www.gibrael.org). Her relocation inspired her to write her book which was originally published in 2015 in Hebrew and now translated to English.…
Gibraltar is blessed with a multi-cultural and multi-faith (and non-faith) community who live largely in peace and celebration of each other’s major festive days and events. We are rich in diversity but at the same time, we are all one and the same: human-beings; well some of us human-doings!…
Amber Law includes in its Holistic Well-being Network, Art as a therapy, a healing and empowerment tool for its clients, because of Art’s transformative powers. But it is also a Practice to hone my Lawyer/ client skills. When travelling for business I always plan some time to visit a museum, gallery, exhibition, installation- any space which provides the opportunity for observation, self-reflection and contemplation. In this photograph you can see me taking my time to observe, self-reflect and contemplate Giovanni Battista Crespi's painting called Il Cerano The Baptism of Christ 1601 at the Staedel Museum in Frankfurt, Germany.…
Amber Turner BSc (Hons) LLM, undertook the Non Violent Communication (NVC) Skills Training & Conflict Management Training in London, UK.
NVC may be used as a conflict resolution tool; as a support for personal growth; as an empathy process or to facilitate social change.
On its simplest level, NVC is a set of tools that help us to resolve conflicts more effectively. Many of us are culturally habituated to focus our attention on judgement, blame and diagnosis of self and others, especially when we are in conflict situations. Focusing our attention in this way often results in increased tension, conflict and even violence.…
Each year, festival organisers BrightMed come up with a theme for the festival, which ties in with the overarching values of peace and 'convivencia' ('coexistence'). In 2017, the theme was 'Uprising (for peace)’. Amber Law’s Holistic approach to Law aims to bring peace to situations of turmoil, trauma and conflict; that is, to use the legal process as an opportunity for positive transformation through the implementation of wellbeing and healing tools which teach about the value of forgiveness amongst other values. Amber Law therefore supports BrightMed’s mission of raising awareness and bridging togetherness in the name of peace, year on year.…
Success Resources Workshop London: "Personal and Professional Development is essential throughout your career. I say that as well as working ‘in’ the business, it is equally important to take time to work ‘on’ the business. In order to do that, one must work on ‘mindset’, as the quality of our thoughts influences the quality of every decision we make, including in our day-to-day business”, Amber Turner, Barrister, Holistic Lawyer, Mediator - Amber Law.
Amber Turner, Founder of Holistic Law Firm Amber Law, is always on the go, attending courses, workshops and other events where she can meet new collaborators to add to the firm’s Holistic Well-being Network for the benefit of lawyers and clients alike. Amber first attended an Essence Course in 2008 in Spain, having been recommended by a colleague at the time called Richard Cave.
The Essence Foundation Process provides cutting edge, experiential personal development courses. It was founded in the UK in 2003 by Family and Systemic Psychotherapist and Psychologist Dr Menis Yousry. He has facilitated over 1,500 events in more than 40 locations worldwide. Dr Ramesh Pattni DPhil of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies visited at the Gibraltar Hindu Temple to give a talk about his work. The Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies is a recognised independent centre of the University of Oxford.
Amber Law celebrates the Arts as tools for self-expression and healing. Art is also a great way to decorate an office environment, a boardroom or conference room where you will meet with your clients. Art can create an atmosphere of peace, harmony and tranquility and set the mood for your meeting. Being conscious of our surroundings, the effect and impact on our subconscious mind of what we put in it, is as important at work as it is at home- after all, many of us spend more hours at the office than we do at home! Why not take a look around your office, boardroom and conference room? How are the walls decorated? What feeling would you like to evoke when you walk into these rooms? Does your current artwork/ decor align with the mood you wish to sit and work in for countless hours, or meet with clients in? If not, why not visit a Gallery or attend the next Art Exhibition and gift yourself, your colleagues and clients a new 'vibe' and experience at your place of business?
A Dinner was organised at the Sunborn Yacht Hotel in support of the "I'm In" Campaign ahead of the Brexit Referendum. It was a pleasure for the Amber Law Team to be sharing a table with other colleagues in the Legal profession, as well as other business women and friends.
Amber Law is proud to support Father Grima's mission in Africa with a £600 donation raised jointly with Gibraltar's personable Ombudsman and Lawyer Mario Hook. The money raised will go towards building a home for children with disabilities in Africa.
I first met Alexander Roseman whilst queueing amongst nearly 900 participants registering for the Millionaire Mind program in London, early 2017. At the time Alex was working for the world’s largest seminar promoting company that represents global names such as Richard Branson, Gary Vaynerchuk, Robert Kiyosaki and Tony Robbins to name a few.…
This week celebrated Gibraltar’s Literary Festival. Once again, it was a challenge to choose whose talks to attend given the calibre of the authors participating.…
One of the many reasons that I find my childhood friend, internationally acclaimed Artist Christian Hook inspiring, aside from the obvious, is because he was in his 40s when he took the courageous step of leaving his secure teaching job and pension to embark on a years’ contract with Sky Arts TV, having won Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the year. Many in his shoes may have opted for security; Christian had faith and put his ‘pension on the table’; his career sky-rocketed after that! Life is short. Living from your authentic Self is, I believe, what sets us free and allows us to be the best expression of who we truly are. The best we can offer others is to serve from our essence, high energy, high vibration and high level of consciousness.…
It was a pleasure and an honour to be invited by TV personality and host Anna Cavilla to take part in a series about the practice of Mindfulness, called ‘Are We Aware?’ but the most rewarding part, was to hear the heartfelt, authentic and powerful testimonials of former clients.…
As a Holistic Lawyer and supporter of the Arts, I invited Gibraltarian International Singer and Songwriter Surianne Dalmedo (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surianne) and music composer (and my first cousin) Gyan Chappory, to meet together at Gibraltar’s Sunborn Super Yacht Hotel.
We are currently at the early stages of brain-storming collaboratively towards future music projects and very much enjoying the process.…
Attending my first meeting with the Global Woman London Club, at London Piccadilly’s Criterion Restaurant, was a memorable experience.
The venue in itself is elegant and perfect for such an event. It was intellectually stimulating to meet professional and business women from various countries as well as from England and hear them speak about their respective passions, missions and visions for the future.…
Practising Holistic Law is a commitment to continued improvement of myself, in order to give the best of me to my clients and to work to my fullest potential in the management of and the representation to the Courts/ Tribunal of, my clients’ multi-faceted cases.
In order to ‘grow’ and ‘learn’, I therefore need to experience new things, places, people and generally take myself to the edge of and beyond my ‘comfort zone’. The Best You Expo, founded by Bernardo Moya is an event which provides a wide and high energy platform for just that!…
In one of my earlier posts, I highlighted the need for Lawyers, like any other effective business people, to keep updated with changes in technology and marketing platforms. Anyone who knows me well will know that aside from being challenged in the cooking department, I also have an instant allergic reaction to anything ‘technological’!
Being committed to my professional development however, I followed the advice of Susan Jeffers Book entitled, ‘Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway,’ and signed up to a course.…
Investing in Personal and Professional Development is sometimes an experience of ‘hit and miss’! I boarded the Gibraltar- London flight with the usual sense of happiness and excitement at the prospect of a new learning experience and further business networking opportunity. What promised to be a very informative and practical course, however, turned out to be somewhat of a disappointment!…

Meeting the authors of some of the books we recommend has been an honour and a privilege given that these are people who serve others from the heart and ‘positively transform lives’ which is Amber Law’s mission statement.…
I first met both Asia Dimitrova and Maria Jose Rodriguez in Huelva, Spain in February of 2008 at the Essence Foundation Course led by its Founder, Systemic Psychotherapist and Psychologist Dr Menis Yousry. Essence designs and facilitates highly practical, experiential, self-development courses. Dr Yousry left his post as a Senior Family Therapist with the NHS in order to bring his work to a wider audience and he has now trained tens of thousands of people around the world and authored a book, "Discover Your Hidden memory and Find the Real You".…
Amber Turner, Founder of Amber Law met Francisca Luna Ivars in 2006 at a Christmas party, when both worked for the same law firm but in different jurisdictions. Amber opened the doors to Holistic Law Firm Amber Law in 2013 and Francisca opened her doors to Luna Law in 2014. The two soon heard of each other's career progression and set up a collaboration to serve clients with cross-border legal disputes, such as in cross border marriages, property purchased/ sold (and Wills needed in this regard) by locals in Spain or for instance, traffic offences by locals in Spain.
Francisca graduated in Law at the University of Cadiz where she later obtained a Masters degree in Commercial Law. A practising lawyer since 1989, until 2005 Francisca was based in the city of Cadiz where she specialised in Civil, Commercial and Administrative Law and ran her own legal practice.…
Strong professional women are my heroines. They blaze trails making it easier for the women that follow them to tread. When in London I saw that actress, writer comedian and presenter Dawn French was performing at The Vaudeville Theatre a monologue called, "30 Million Minutes", that is, the amount of time she had been alive at the time of producing the show. I did not hesitate to get my ticket! Dawn studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama where she meet her comedy partner Jennifer Saunders and they are best known for their comedy sketch show French and Saunders. What I loved most about 30 Million Minutes was how honest and authentic Dawn came across in sharing about her own life's challenges. Dawn shared about the media's cruel coverage of her weight gains and losses (discriminatory and sexist comments); about the racism suffered by her and her then husband comedian Lenny Henry (divorced in 2010) with vicious attacks at their home after they adopted a mixed-race daughter. She spoke of the "hatred" from strangers after she and Lenny married and how they were lucky they could afford to employ security.
Laws exists to protect us; however if we are not conscious of our choice of language, thoughts, words and actions, such ignorance and harmful behaviour will prevail. Cultures change when people change, and that change starts with each one of us, with education, especially of children.
During her performance, Dawn also mentioned her visit to Gibraltar as a young girl, which was endearing. After the show, I visited Dawn backstage and gave her a hug from Gibraltar, with smiles all round.
Amber Turner, Holistic Lawyer and Founder of Amber Law, was invited as a 'woman in leadership' to attend a fantastic event organised by Gibraltar AmCham and hosted at the University of Gibraltar.
Spanish artist Victor Quintanilla has been working with metal since he was very young. He creates his sculptures from recycled materials influenced by global themes and issues such as life and death, hop, music, dance, immigration, literature- all feature in his works. Victor has also collaborated with Gibraltarian artist Christian Hook creating an interactive experience between painting and sculpture. I am grateful to Dylan Cavilla of The Cavilla Gallery for hosting this inspiring Exhibition.
'Giving Back' to the Community or 'Paying It Forward' are two ways of expressing gratitude and keeping the practice of collective responsibility alive. GBC's Open Day does an amazing job each year of raising funds for different local charities, which in turn, support our community. The Amber Law team got together to make arts and crafts, Christmas decorations for sale, as well as offered delicious baked goods running with the Christmas theme. It was fun to create the event and rewarding to participate with the rest of our generous Gibraltar local and business community. Thank you GBC for the opportunity to make a difference!
